U.S. News and World Report rankings

Here's an intersting little ditty in the NYT about some colleges not wanting to participate in the U.S. News and World report rankings. This is a bold move for the schools, but I think it's a good one. Those rankings really don't mean a whole lot to me, and did not play a factor in where I earned an undergraduate degree or where I will attend law school next year.

I'm a firm believer in the ideology that your college doesn't make your future, you do. Granted there are some pretty crappy schools out there, but there are also plenty of good ones, many of which will never crack the top 10 in the U.S. News and World report rankings.

The decision by the schools will have no impact on my life whatsoever, but maybe it will change things for some kids who get their hearts broken when they don't get into an Ivy League institution. Listen here kids: You'll be fine.

As for the U.S. News and World report ... I'll go to the schools I feel want me to be there. Not the ones you say I should go to. Besides, I'm too poor to actually buy the report.

Yeah, I agree thoser ratings are kind of ridiculous, at least for me. They didn't have any effect on where I received my undergraduate either. Personally I think the best way to learn about a school is to talk to students and alumni. Who knows better than the people who attend or previously attended.
