Miami of Ohio is 11-1. They have the best record in college hockey. Therefore, they are the best team in college hockey? Umm, no. Contrary to what certain websites would like you to believe, this is a false syllogism.
Take a look at their schedule. Let's compare that to a WCHA school. I would pick North Dakota, but I don't want to look too biased, so I'll pick Colorado College. Miami plays TWO tough teams this whole year. In fairness, Michigan State won it all last year. Colorado College plays Minnesota (2002, 2003 National Champs), North Dakota (2000 National Champs, three straight Frozen Fours), New Hampshire, Denver (2004, 2005 National Champs) and Wisconsin (2006 National Champs).
I'm getting so sick of hearing about how good Miami of Ohio is this year. Yeah, they are a decent team, but they're a team that hasn't played anybody. And they won't play anybody until a two-game series against Michigan in February. Everyone's going to be making a big deal about how the Redhawks swept Michigan State at home this weekend, but what they are forgetting to mention is that Michigan State is overrated. They lost 6-nuts to North Dakota to open the season.
The WCHA is where the best teams in college hockey play. Every single weekend is a battle, not just four league games like in the CCHA. The CCHA has three, maybe four, good teams. The WCHA is top-to-bottom a solid league ... except maybe for Anchorage.
That said, all will be right in the world come April. And we won't be hearing from Miami of Ohio. I'll tell you that much.

Is someone sad that your poor Sioux are no good despite all the talent?
When you consider Miami was 11-35-3 all time at Munn before this weekend, this was pretty big.
And also don't forget that MSU has Kennedy, Crowder and Lerg to lead them, with the other Lerg - you know, the one that carried MSU to the National Championship last year - in net.
I don't think anyone is sad that the Sioux are "no good". Fact of the matter is, we are good, and will be in the Frozen Four come spring, when everything actually matters.
Well, it's late January and the Miami RedHawks are 23-3 and ranked No. 2 in the nation. WRITE THIS DOWN: Miami will be in the Frozen Four this year.
N. Dak sits at No. 4 in the polls with a 14-8-1 record, also impressive as a WCHA team.
It's time to acknowledge, as much as you don't want to, that Miami is a great team and the CCHA is an equal conference to the WCHA. Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame are all in the Top 10. CC, Denver and N. Dak are right there with them.
You can continue to underestimate Miami, but you'll regret it.
