Here's a point of contention for those who think UND's settlement with the NCAA is a victory.
No one else cares.
Like I said before the settlement doesn't mean anything. It's merely an extension of the status quo. An extension that still is not worth $2 million.
Naturally, the logo supporters are going to rail on the U of M for this decision. Say what you will about the Goofers, but this decision really does show that keeping the nickname is going to hurt the school as it moves into DI.
Think of how big NDSU's victory over Minnesota was for the football program and the school as a whole. UND football will never get the opportunity to do the same thing. And it's all because of a name.

I hate the gophers. I agree the name needs to change as soon as possible. The fact that they discourge playing teams with American Indian nicknames is complete BS. They play both Illinois and Florida State in regular season play for Men's Basketball. The only reason they are saying they don't want to play teams with Native American nicknames is becuase they don't want to have to play a I AA school when they can play a I A school. They already played NDSU in football, and they don't want to weaken they're strength of schedule any more. If they wouldn't play these other teams with American Indian monikers, they would have a valid point and would be complying with their own policies. The fact that they are still playing these teams (which is obvious because they are good for competition and for selling tickets for money which is the only thing any public institution cares about) means they are just beating around the bush and trying to give a reason to not have to play UND.
