Well, I've been stewing over this for a few weeks now and I was about to let it go, but I was re-admitted to the blog just before I stopped giving a shit. Apparently I'm not the only person in the world who will defend this guy.
Unless you live under a rock, or don't leave the men's restroom at the MSP airport, you heard about this unfortunate bastard. Now I have no love lost for the Republican Party, rich white men, or even people from Idaho, but what happened to Larry Craig was ridiculous. What makes it even worse is the fact that such nonsense is becoming the norm.
First, what did he do? I'm still confused about what crime he committed. I know he was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, disorderly conduct, but what is so disorderly about tapping your feet and putting your hand under a bathroom stall? Unfortunately for him that stall happened to be a known spot for anonymous gay sex, and his foot tapping routine was some sort of secret code. So what he was basically charged with was intent to have 62 year-old gay sex in a public men's room. Disgusting? Yes. But criminal? Now you don't even have to commit the crime. All you have to do is consider committing a crime. He wasn't caught in the middle of some unspeakable act, he wasn't even caught propositioning someone for such an act. He was caught tapping out what may or may not be Morse code for "Let's Get it On" on some dank tile floor.
Second, his boys in the Republican Party sold him out for losing his credibility on "Family Values" issues. What an amazing organization that won't stand behind one if it's most important members while he tries to clear his name. There was practically a race to see who would throw this poor stooge under the bus first. And the Democrats weren't much better. They smelled blood in the water and saw an opportunity to better their odds for a contested seat. Not bad for a bunch of legal rights liberals. He knew exactly what would happen if the story broke, and when it did his colleagues, the Media, and the Public bent him over the toilet bowl.
Finally, the Bushido outlook on all of this. I don't care what this guy does in his free time, behind closed doors, or in the darkened corners of his mind. It's not up to me to decide what his intent was, if he's gay, or pass judgement on his moral character. That being said, the last thing on his mind should be getting his job back. He's got a lot of life to sort out, and the first thing he needs to get squared away is himself.
There is one thing I do want to ask Larry Craig: "Is there, like, a location, or some signal for anonymous straight restroom sex?"

Well, first off, i think it would be hard to give a signal for straight sex in a bathroom since men and women typically use different restrooms. Second, I too don't care what this guy does in his free time. However, I don't want to walk into the bathroom and see this dude balls deep in some other dude.
After this happened, I was listening to Loveline. (great show by the way) Anyway, they were talking about this and dr. drew was saying some men have sex with other men, but aren't gay. Now, i always thought if you were a man and had sex with another man, you were gay, maybe that's just me. The fact that he got arrested sounds a little sketchy, but there must be some truth to it, because you don't just accidentally bump feet with someone in the stall next to you when your dropping a deuce. At least that's never happened to me anyway.
